Let’s face it, grooming is important. Any man who claims to care about style and and has a real interest in looking his best, must also pay attention to his grooming habits (or lack thereof).

I am not an expert in this topic. In fact, my beard definitely needs some extra attention now that it’s growing again.

So let’s learn together. I brought in some help from an experienced grooming writer, Peter Minkoff, who will give you some useful pointers and tips on how you can style your beard like pro. Enjoy!

Peter, take it away!

If you’re rocking a beard, you definitely know about the daily struggle of keeping it under control.

This task often seems like an impossible mission but trust me that it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think.

Stay with me to learn how to style your beard like a pro.

How to style beard

Know Your Face To Find Out Your Optimal Beard Style

Before you actually get started, it’s essential to decide what you really want.

Of course, one of the most important things here is that you should style your scruff according to your face shape – there’s a whole set of tips and tricks that can help you achieve a so-called ‘optimal beard’.

For example, if you have a square face, you may want to keep your facial hair fuller on the chin and shorter on the sides, since that can visually elongate your face.

On the other hand, if your face is slightly rectangular, you should go for more hair on the sides while avoiding the length beneath the chin.

Wash Your Beard Properly

In order to keep your scruff clean and tamed all day long, you definitely have to wash it properly. Invest in some quality products that can help your beard look, feel, and smell great.

Beard wash is one of the most important products, especially in the early stages of growth when trapped food and dead skin cells underneath your facial hair can contribute to itchiness. That’s exactly why you need to scrub your beard with a specific type of wash which will get rid of unwanted stuff in your scruff and nourish it to the max.

Remember not to rub it aggressively, since that can lead to frizz or even split ends. Instead, pat it dry with a soft towel, in order to keep your beard healthy and good looking.

Apply Beard Oil For A Healthy-Looking Beard

Beard oil is probably one of the most beneficial products you can apply on your beloved scruff, so make sure not to miss it under any circumstances.

This product is said to make your beard grow much faster, thicker, and stronger, which is why millions of bearded guys all across the globe swear by it.

But that’s not all. Besides taming your hairs, beard oil doubles as a skin moisturizer, since it nourishes the skin underneath the beard and helps it stay hydrated all day long. It will lock in moisture and protect your skin against environmental effects, while providing a great amount of necessary nutrients.

And don’t worry about potential acne breakouts – beard oil won’t cause that, on the contrary, it may even improve your complexion!

A healthy-looking beard requires attention

Clean Up Around The Edges

Once you’re done with washing and applying beard oil, your next task is cleaning up around the edges.

This step will provide a more maintained look, and it’s not bad at all – your scruff will appear much cleaner and more defined, which is exactly what you want, no matter the stage of growth.

This is essential even though your goal is a well-groomed beard that looks messy and a bit undone.

Just use your safety razor and edge it around your cheekbones and neck – just a few moves will do magic for you scruff, helping it look much more beautiful and tamed.

If you would like to go for an even more polished look, get a sandalwood comb and use it on a daily basis to keep your facial hair under control!

Don’t Forget The Mustache

If you’re rocking a moustache too, you may want to take extra care of it.

A pair of scissors should be your best friend, so use it periodically to get the shape you want. Apart from scissors, you’ll also need a fine toothed comb which will keep it smooth and tamed.

If you don’t control it, your moustache will start growing very fast, which is definitely not what you want. Cut all those hairs that grow beyond your upper lip line and help it stay in order.

You should also use moustache wax, which is the ultimate styling product you need. It’s not like a typical styling cream you can dip your fingers into, but trust me – it’s a piece of cake once you start using it regularly.

In A Nutshell

As you can see, styling your beard doesn’t have to be as difficult as you’ve probably thought. What you have to do is first pick the appropriate shape, since that’s the only way to do it right.

The next steps include washing your beard on a daily basis, using beard oil, and cleaning up around the edges to achieve a more polished look.

If you’re rocking a moustache, make sure to take proper care of it too. Once you master these steps, you’ll be able to style your beard like a true pro!
