JORD watches review starsBeing a men’s style blogger and at the same time being a very skeptical person can make one’s life tricky to say the least.

Just imagine when I was approached by an (up to then) unknown brand of wooden watches to give their products a try.

My hesitation radar went immediately off. Not because of the idea of wooden watches, I’ve heard of them before and I know there are many wooden style options going around these days.

My hesitation was oriented towards my disbelief that such wooden watches could actually be a part of a classy or formal style, which is the specific target of My Dapper Self’s content.

But as any good skeptic should do, I concluded I should give their watches a good try and see if I can prove my feelings of disbelief to be wrong.

And so I welcomed the opportunity.

Some Words about JORD

So… watches… wooden watches… is that it? Not really, there’s much more to it.

As I usually do with most of my product reviews, I let the brands do their own introductions by quoting directly from their websites. Here’s what the JORD artists have to say for themselves:

JORD is run by artists, designers, marketers, and minders. We spend our days creating, considering, arguing, and hopefully agreeing. Then we’ll scrap it all for the joy of starting new. We have fun. This is our journey.

We are focused on creating timepieces that are modeled after a modern lifestyle. We value sustainability, efficiency, and experiential living. We make our watches for people who don’t just have somewhere to be, they have somewhere to go.

The value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.

It does sound like they are having fun doing what they do and I have to say, the line about having somewhere to go instead of just having somewhere to be really hit home.

Now I just need to find the place I have to go to.

Jord Wooden Watch Review

JORD wooden watch on wrist

My JORD watch on my tiny wrist.

Let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this post, the actual product review of these wooden watches by JORD.

I’ll be frank, I am by no means an expert in watches… at all. I know when I visually like a watch and I do know some basic things about how these nifty things work.

And that’s about it.

Again, the idea of a wooden watch caught me a big off guard and the feeling of incredulity lasted a good while.

Until I actually received the watch.

By the way, here’s a funny/warning story. When ordering watches online make sure, I mean absolutely and undoubtedly sure that you know your wrist measurements in both centimeters and inches – it’ll save you time, effort and while at it, spare a few disappointments. Let’s say my watch came with the perfect size for a 7 year old girl. I mean, I am short and small-handed, but c’mon!

Anyway, I must say it was nobody’s fault but mine.

After a trip to the local horologist (watchmaker) the watch was perfect for my wrist.

Back to the watch. The watch I chose was the Fieldcrest series Dark Sandalwood watch (see image below). I must say it is a beautiful watch. The wood feels great and its dark color makes it work much better than I initially expected with a semi-formal, semi-casual ensemble.

Bear in mind this might not be the ideal watch for a more formal or classic style, simply because of the material it’s made of. It won’t be replacing your most elegant, timeless watch anytime soon.

But I’ll repeat it, if you are looking for a nice addition to your watch collection, one that is quite versatile and can add a bit of vivacity to an already semi-casual outfit, you’d be in the right with these watches.

It is worth noting they are very lightweight. It must be the wood. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting it to be so lightweight, it was quite startling initially. But you know how you can tell when a piece has quality when you hold it in your hands and feel the materials and the actual handwork that went into creating it. That’s just how I felt this watch.

To touch briefly on the subject of their selection of watches… believe me, you’ll surely find a watch you’ll like. They come in different woods, different sizes, different colors and different shapes. Honestly, the only bad side to having such an extensive catalog is how difficult they make it to choose one!

And last comes the price. Excuse me for going on about it, but I’m really no expert and have limited knowledge in price ranges for wooden watches. However, I made my research and I have to say the price for these watches is just right. If anything, I would probably say they’re quite inexpensive considering the quality of the piece I received.

I am very happy with the watch (now that it fits me). As with any product, it is hard to come to a final conclusion when you don’t know its durability, so it would be nice to know how long the watch will resist, but so far it looks like a nice, sturdy piece.

So stop by JORD’s online shop. Take a look at their watches and give them a try with your semi-casual ensembles.

I am confident you’ll find one that you’ll like.
