My November 2016 Playlist

Ed Ruiz

7 November 2016

Because you asked, no… because you begged for it… here is my cool November playlist.

Okay, you didn’t beg for it.

You didn’t even really asked for it.

But I just wanted to start this new section of my blog because music is such an important part of my life that I just felt bad leaving it out of the content I publish here.

I will share with you my top 10 songs for the month (some old, some new), and a link to where you can purchase the album. Or the song, if that’s what you’re into, but you really should be listening to full albums to get the whole experience the way artists envisioned it. But those are just my cheap 2 cents.

So, without further ado, I give you my November 2016 playlist.

Brace yourselves for musical awesomeness.

Opeth – The Wilde Flowers

From Opeth’s latest album, Sorceress, this song really kicks hard with all the 70s prog influences combined with some nice riffage that reminds me of the older Opeth albums. Old fans might complain about the lack of growls in Opeth’s current output (and I do bitch about it sometimes too), but with songs as well-written as this one, it is just dumb to keep moaning.

Dente – Cosa Devo Fare

My second choice for the month is this new song from the Italian singer/songwriter Dente. Musically very simple, but the great vocal melody keeps me coming back for more. Dente is one of my favorite Italian singers these days and he certainly didn’t disappoint with his latest album, Canzoni per metà.

Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter

I’ve listened to this song thousands of times already and I still have no idea what Eddie Vedder is actually singing about. In fact, I remember reading somewhere that this song doesn’t even have any real lyrics. That would explain why almost all of the live versions of this song sound as if Eddie Vedder was coming up with them right on the spot. Anyway, who needs to understand words when feelings are so obvious by the voice singing them, right? A classic!

At The Gates – Terminal Spirit Disease

One of those songs that get my heart racing and blood pumping right from the moment the riff starts. This was the title track of the album Terminal Spirit Disease by At the Gates, which is to this day one of my favorite metal albums. Any fan of European metal will surely be familiar with ATG, but for those of you who don’t know who the hell they are, this makes for a great introduction to their style of metal. Damn, I miss my days of having long hair headbanging insanely to this song!

Eefje de Visser – De Bedoeling

I have absolutely no idea what this song is about and while I have a very tiny knowledge of Dutch pronunciation, I still would never venture to try to pronounce either her name or the name of the song. This piece from the 2013 album Het Is is just pure bliss to my ears. I am amazed at how some artists can take sheer simplicity and build a great melody from it. This album is a gem… I promise you’ll love it in your collection. And FYI, this is why I’m learning Dutch as soon as my Swedish gets at least remotely decent!

So there you have it, folks.

My November 2016 playlist. The birth of a beautiful monthly tradition now.

Do you have any music recommendations for me? Please share good stuff I could listen to in the comments section below. I am (literally) always up for some new music.

Who knows, some of your recommendations might make it to next month’s playlist.

Stay classy and musically-inclined!
